Welcome to the Nonlinear Geophysics website. International and interdisciplinary cooperation has been the essence for NG and became a core principle of the AGU strategic plan to develop excellence across national boundaries on the fundamental, interdisciplinary core of geophysics: nonlinearity and complexity of Earth and Space. The Nonlinear Geophysics Focus Group was formed in 1998 to meet a growing interest in the analysis and modeling of nonlinear behavior in geophysical processes. The group focuses on quantifying nonlinear behavior through analysis of geophysical data and modeling using the mathematical tools and approaches of fractals, chaos, scaling, critical phenomenon, nucleation, cellular automata, and self-organizing and complex systems.
